I had a really cool how-to book which, along with my dad, taught me the game as a boy
Fortunately, I rarely throw things away so they are getting the same introduction. Happy days!
I had that book, and the fantastic illustrations made me interested in chess when otherwise I probably wouldn't have been. I passed it on to my kids too!

DeleteThats a pretty cool illustration in the book. I'd probably have gotten interested in chess earlier if I had seen it too....as Scalene just mentioned.

Chess is a great game, and the ideas of strategy, positioning, and forward planning are invaluable skills for so many other games. It's definitely one of the Ur-wargames.
