Deadcember 16 champion

I've thoroughly enjoyed curating Deadcember and will do so again at the end of 2017 - if the quality and variety matches 2016's entries then it will be a pleasure to do so once more!

First of all, I must congratulate all of those who completed the challenge and submitted an entry (or several more than one in some cases!), particularly as I didn't - I have five skeletal horsemen in need of about an hour or two to finish off bone highlights, saddles and bridles, remnants of hair, and basing. Hardly a way to lead by example, eh?

Despite my own painting ineptitude, I have found time to carefully admire all twenty-nine entries. Over twenty of them contained whole groups of the undead, one being a whole BloodBowl team and sideline staff, and two being most of an army! I couldn't find a way to include Geoff's winter themed gaming board, but covered in skeletons and with his newly painted zombie dragon bestriding it, it looks a fine sight!

It was a difficult job, but in the end I've chosen my favourite entry. I couldn't work out a set of criteria by which to judge the best, so I abandoned any pretence at objectivity and went for the one that kept drawing my eye as I scrolled up and down through the fine displays of inventiveness, brushwork and prolific-ness that I can only aspire to. The striking use of almost jewel-like colour, applied boldly and with a deftness of touch, without neglecting the small details made this entry 'pop'. Congratulations to the champion of Deadcember 2016, James Cook with Lord Krell and his Flying Eyeballs!

Well done, James! Drop me a PM through the FB group with your address and I'll pop something suitably necrotic in the post for you as your prize.

Stay tuned for next year, folks, and set aside Deadcember17 painting time in your New Year's resolutions. Thank you again to all involved,

Rab

  3. I agree, the colors are great. Combined with that iconography & painting quality, the unit is an old-school masterpiece!
