+++ Almost indistinguishable from the abhuman homo sapiens variatus (the "beastmen"), Administratum researchers have nevertheless shown Caprids to have evolved independently and should therefore be classed as xenos. Thorough Inquisitory investigation has shown none of the expected taint of Chaos that their visages might suggest and that, accordingly, they may be taken into the service of the Emperor, subject to standard xenos protocols. +++
Caprids are, in their undisturbed state, semi-nomadic warriors. Herbivorous and insectivorous, they do not hunt but young bucks will prove their maturity by stalking and killing large carnivores who are within hunting distance of the herd. Each herd of caprids consists of a dominant male, several subordinate, generally non-breeding males, and females of all ages. This gives each herd a common appearance arising from a small range of genotypes within the breeding population. With the low-level inter-herd conflict that arises in times of stress upon grazing areas (caprids do not literally graze, but harvest wild grasses etc.), a common warrior band organisation has grown to be prevalent among all herds.

A warrior band, or raaz, consists of its leader (the "head", or methul) and two cyrm ("horns") each of four warriors (garfyr). Easily pressed into service with a Rogue Trader, with the opportunity for proving their status against more intelligent and heavily armed predators, one garf of each corm will usually carry a support weapon, often a flamer which is redolent of the techniques used for flushing out predators on their homeworld.

Rab
I really like these - I may have to pick some up!
ReplyDeleteThank you! They're great figures and there are about twenty variants so no need to have any duplicates.
DeleteVery nice! They're very characterful sculpts and you've really done them justice.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I've been admiring your astropath choir, too.
DeleteWonderful troop, full of individuality. Basing, colour choice and painting are above any critic for me. That's how he shall be done.
ReplyDeleteAh, JB, your praise has me blushing :)
DeleteNice unit. All this intrest in abhumans of the chaotic sort is going to attract the attention of an inquisitor I think.
ReplyDeleteWho me, guv?! Nah. Mind, I did hear abou this chap called Snickit who has a questionable, perhaps even heretical, interest in talking rats...
